We’re excited to announce that we’re hiring for a new associate position. Here are the details:

The Rocky Mountain Region Associate will be responsible largely for designing, implementing, and promoting projects and strategies to reduce conflicts between wolves and grizzly bears and humans, particularly livestock producers, and conducting outreach and education in support of wolves and other predators and wildlife. Additional wildlife conservation work may be assigned, and duties may evolve over time. This position requires knowledge of wildlife biology and policy, as well as strong personal and communication skills, and will benefit from familiarity with ranch management and livestock production. Assignments are results oriented, requiring substantial discretion in determining how to meet assigned goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and implement wildlife coexistence partnership projects designed to reduce conflicts between wolves and grizzly bears on the one hand, and livestock producers and communities on the other.
Innovate and promote tools and strategies for reducing such conflicts.
Collaborate in the above with federal and state agencies, tribes, livestock and land owners, educators, other conservation organizations, and the general public.
Conduct outreach and education in support of wolf conservation.
Support strategies for conserving wolves in and near the Rocky Mountain Region.
Develop and implement work plans and provide timely reports on work accomplished.
Maintain records regarding projects and expenses in an organized manner so that accounting and coordination with other staff can be easily accomplished.
Assist Defenders' Communications staff in providing information for articles, editorial pieces, op-eds, and letters to editor to Communications staff and news outlets.
Represent Defenders' positions at public events, conferences, and in communication with public officials, Defenders’ membership, and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Biology, Natural Resources, Public Policy, Range or Ranch Management, or related discipline or equivalent work experience.

· Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience working on wildlife conservation or biology or livestock or ranch management.

· An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

· Other:

Strong communications skills.
Ability to produce quality work products in a consistent, efficient, and timely manner.
Ability to work both independently (initiating project ideas as well as managing them through to completion) and constructively as a member of teams and coalitions.
Capable of setting priorities based on program goals and objectives
Basic understanding of federal and state agencies, laws, and policies concerning wildlife management
Comfortable with public speaking in various venues including educational events, conferences, workshops, and public hearings.
Ability to effectively and consistently handle multiple projects and topics at one time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer and communicate with others while doing so.
Must be capable of travel and field visits to rural and remote locations, and maintaining personal safety in the field.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· General office and field working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Field work requires some physical exertion and natural hazards.
